A Houston TX based midstream customer has observed large accumulations of iron corrosion debris in their 10-inch 27-mile pipeline. The accumulation of this debris will likely result in increased corrosion rates from the corrosion mechanisms taking place in the pipeline or the corrosion debris entering the system as a corrosion by‐product and create issues with obtaining accurate information from ILI data. The projects objective is to clean and subsequent apply corrosion inhibitor treatment to mitigate the under‐deposit corrosion attack that is likely to exist. The customer sought turnkey support to effectively and procedurally clean the pipeline, ensuring future internal corrosion risks stemming from these past and future activities were minimized. Furthermore, they needed these services to be efficiently and safely managed.
Baleen Process Solutions partnered with ChampionX as well as collaborating with the customer to engineer a custom-tailored Mechanical and Chemical solution to achieve the project goals:
- Perform incident free operation (IFO).
- Mechanically and Chemically clean 27 miles of 10” pipeline to remove contaminate.
- Chemically treat the internal pipe wall with corrosion inhibitor and monitor critical points to validate the effectiveness of treatment program.
- Maintain an overall project budget.
- 24-hour operations
Baleen Process Solutions and ChampionX completed the cleaning, pigging, pig tracking, corrosion treatment, and nitrogen compression requirements while meeting all project goals. We successfully designed, planned, and managed with ChampionX’s midstream services group for a 24-hour service over a period of 20+ days to ensure this large capital project was a success. Baleen and ChampionX team remained nimble as on-site conditions required additional Mechanical and Chemical treatment and our team completed the project accident and incident- free over the 20+ days.
